The Purpose of College Composition II
In College Composition II, we will examine and write about rhetoric and how rhetoric works to shape and even challenge our values. In the process, you will cultivate what is called "rhetorical intelligence," the hallmark of an educated citizen, who is capable of researching an important issue and crafting a variety of arguments to forward the cause of a valued point of view. Rhetorical intelligence allows us to be receptive enough to unfamiliar situations and audiences such that we have some power to respond, to discern what might persuade a given audience, and to thereby make some difference in the world.
